Lomax broke out in his own half 'to set Wellens for his second and Foster converted.
The official video then invited to assess whether Josh Charnley was counted in Wigan, but the review showed the wing was on the ground the ball.
McCarthy-Scarsbrook loaded in the fourth Toussaint, Foster new convert, and while Joel Tomkins combination with Thomas Leuluai of Wigan that was not enough to deny the Saints coach Royce Simmons, a first derby success.

Wigan coach Michael Maguire:
"We learned the hard way last year when we had to play through, then this is another opportunity for us.
"We need to make sure we get everything we needed this week, there is a chance for us.
"There was always an opportunity for us. The boys were executed in good works from time to time, but unfortunately do not always do."
St Helens coach Royce Simmons:
"Even if we had not beaten, we could have at least two victories, so we came here pretty confident we could do a job.
"Our combinations are starting to get a small roll. Halves youth were really good. They played very square and went to the bus and I thought he kicked well today."
