Houston (AP)-Rookie Jose Altuve (Notes) and JD Martinez (notes) Houston Astros take a good look to the future.
Altuve hit a car inside-the-park for his first Major League home run, a leadoff shot that sent the Astros over the San Francisco Giants 7-5 on Saturday night.
Altuve had three hits and Martinez homered, doubled and drove in four runs and the Astros match a season high with their fourth consecutive victory.
"It's good to see everyone well, not just us," Martinez said. "I think the guys are starting to jell together and see what each can do. What do bring to the table and what is its role in the team. It's nice to see that we put everything together and win games."
Rookie Jordan Lyles (Notes) (2-7) gave up two runs, both unearned, five innings. Mark Melancon (Notes) has two outs to save his 13 th.
"I can not say enough about them," Lyle said of his fellow rookies. "That night, Altuve and JD had. The coup monster, JD had. It's a bit easier when they are great rounds like that. "
Astros manager Brad Mills (notes), Lyles said did a good job of pitching around the seven hits he allowed.
Madison Bumgarner (notes) (7-12) was tagged for seven points and 11 hits in two innings to June 3.
"I felt like it was a battle all night trying to put the ball where it is supposed to go," said Bumgarner. "I tried to fight through it and make pitches. They did a good job tonight, hitting the ball. "
"Only one of these days," he said. "You really have nothing to work. Just find a way to get through. It stinks that I gave up running a lot, especially with our offense scored five runs."
Aubrey Huff (notes) homered and Cody Ross (Notes) and Pablo Sandoval (Notes) each drove two runs for the Giants, who have lost three in a row and 16 of 22
Altuve opened the bottom of the first with a reader on the left-center field wall. Ross came from center field to keep the ball and relayed to shortstop Mike Fontenot (notes), clay pigeon shooting which was high and wide.
The Dave Clark third base coach put a stop sign, but ran and did Altuve.
"As soon as I hit, I knew he was in the hole," said Altuve. "I just kept running hard. I saw the center fielder did not know where the ball was. I just kept running. When I was near the third base, I tried to watch, but Sandoval was blocking me, so I could not see. When I realized there was a sign, it was too late. "
The homer was the first inside-the-Parker for the Astros at Minute Maid Park Adam Everett (note) August 6, 2003. The last player to beat Houston in a blow-Park for his first race was the pitcher Homer Butch Henry, May 8, 1992, at Three Rivers Stadium in Pittsburgh.
Tony Campana (notes) in the Cubs was the last player whose first major league home run was inside the park. He did so on August 5 against Cincinnati.
The Astros scored four times in the third in a 5-0 lead. Martinez hit a double that led to Altuve and Lyles, both distinguished. Later in the round, an error introduced Bumgarner Jimmy Paredes (notes) and an RBI single to Clint Barmes (notes), a sacrifice fly.
Ross cut to 5-2 with two out, two run single in the fourth. Huff hit a solo Homer in the seventh.
Martinez increased his lead to 7-3 with his fifth circuit, blow a colon, which led to Bumgarner.
