Juggernaut Index, 7-9: Add Mannings, More Problems

As most of you know, Juggernaut Index is our annual pre-season NFL teams for fantasy. Repeat: On FANTASY purposes. We are not interested in real life by winning percentage. It's just feet, scoring and the position of the project.

9. Indianapolis Colts

Peyton Manning (Notes) eventually came out of the PUP list, but it is still causing problems. Manning is only four months after the neck surgery, and he was left almost the entire preseason. Many of us were willing to give him my support in our ranks soon - well deserved, because he has played in 227 straight games - but when the Colts plucked Kerry Collins (notes) from the well, we had to react. Yahoo Manning, the team finished 6-9 in the choice of location, which is likely to cure a boy really, if you care at all what the fantasy experts. (That is, if he MJD). Over the past decade, Manning has never finished lower than sixth at the end of the score between fantasy quarterbacks. If healthy, we rank the top three, and where it was ending. Not a team to put the ball in the air as often during the Indianapolis last season (42.4 attempts per game).

It is tempting to compare this preseason in 2008 when Manning was sacked because of surgery on his left knee. But it is clear that injuries are different. We do not know how far the current edition of the neck affects the ability of Peyton for every shot with speed. Manning preparation is legendary, of course, and it is like learning a new system or process with a new group of receivers.

Conclusion: When he was ready to play, I'm willing to admit that Peyton will happen in regular - and that makes it a sort of flying in our games. In my drafts in recent years, it has always slipped beyond choosing No. 40. Recall that last week of the season is when you choose the title, Manning's off, then find a car for 1-2 weeks. (Preferably not Collins).

Colts' receiving body is always a buffet of fantasy and this season should be different, assuming Manning returned to anything like full strength. Every fantasy industry analyst looks down Reggie Wayne (Notes) (reaching 33 November), but let's not overlook the fact that it was targeted 176 times last year, more than any other receiver in the AFC If it gets end of round 2, or on top of Round 3 -. And there is (Early ADP 28.1) - then you have a reliable 100-catch, 1,200 yard Wideouts the crazy prices.

Austin Collie (notes) in the preseason diseases (foot, knee) has hit the boards most of the projects, and is perfectly understandable reaction. I removed the neck as well as in his early sketches. Colts do not release information relating to the damage (because they are a smart team), so we never the whole truth before you see it work. And of course there are a number of issue concussion, a red flag for everyone, especially the guy who makes his living over the middle. I'm still interested in owning a lot of Collie - He gave us eight TD in nine games last year - but I admit that is a risk / reward dilemma. Pierre Garcon (Notes) is a great source of drops and the solution for situations where the receiver can not be ignored, given the context of the team. He played in a round average of nature Yahoo! 10/11, at which point it feels great pick up.

Dallas Clark (Notes) has returned to mixing, even though he seems to wear the brace to protect his right wrist this year. Clark is only one season away from what it was, I believe, only 100-1,000-10 campaign in the history of the tight end position, so his head is well established. It 'important to remember a great job, Jacob Tamme (Notes), and Clark, a relief last season, a tight end in this offense will be useful, no matter who he is.

Last year, Indy racing game has been little used in real life and slightly out in fantasy. Joseph Addai (Notes) remains the starter here, re-up with the team shortly after the close ended ($ 14M/3Y). Addai was a good start in 2010 with six games (4.4 YPC, 3 TD, 18 REC), but an injury in the neck / shoulder collapse of his years. He did it again at week 16, however, and the Colts felt confident enough to pay for it. In Yahoo leagues, Addai is No. 36, table runner. Even if you do not like the type, we must recognize that the price is good. The man has found the end zone 13 times in '09. Delone Carter (note) is the latest challenge to the position of the line of scrimmage top of Addai this hierarchy is clearly a great post-round pick in fantasy, not simply as handcuffs. It is not difficult to imagine finding a rotation Indy Carter role, given the history of back injuries.

Nobody wants to think of Donald Brown (Notes) as well, right? Good. Would risk being cut.

2010 Stats NFL team ranking: 27.2 (4) points per game, 288.1 passing YPG (1), Rush YPG 92.7 (29), 42.4 assists (1), 24.6 Rush experiments (28)

8. San Diego Chargers

OK, first look at the photo of MIKE Tolbert (notes). Goodness. It is unique.

Kool-Aid Man was a gem offers in the last season, with 735 yards and 11 TDS is supposed to belong to Ryan Mathews (note). Few players were disappointed as much as we did last season Mathews (Shona Greene (notes) are a notable exception), such as injury and fumble problems became a part-time. A line of the terrible statistics Week 17 in Denver finally did at the end of freshman year numbers look very good (26 carries, 120 yards, 3 TDs). But unless you have set your fantasy league this week, does not enjoy his property Mathews experience, and it will cost a late-first/early-second round selection.

Well, Tolbert Mathews, or fly off the board near the tops of the project this season, so do not worry too much. Tolbert should bring their own goal line - so he gets the advantage in the standings - and Mathews battling their return to the circle of trust, does most of the work among the 10. Charger coach Turner Norvir continues to spit at the sun in its second year back ...

"I think Ryan is growing as a player," Turner said. "I see in practice every day. It's nice when it arises. We know he will do long runs ... I think it has improved down low coherent. "

... But it is a great disappointment that we are still discussing the type as a project.

I will say this much in defense of Mathews: We definitely see the flashes of talent, and is linked to a major crime. You can not ignore, no matter how much he will disappoint last season. He should have somewhere, as the price-flex player.

Now comes the really fun part of this offense ...

It is possible that the best QB-in-the-game discussion should focus not only Philip Rivers (notes), but it must start with Rivers. Not only did he lead the NFL in yards last season (4710), but he did so with 138 passing attempts than Manning, the guy who was number two. His performance is ridiculous, and last year was not an aberration. Rivers eclipsed 8.0 yards per pass attempt in the last three seasons (8.7 in 2010). He gave us three times the 4000-yard seasons with an average of 30.7 affected by season in this sequence. Crazy. He also plays the 16 complete games each year. If the guy ever ran the ball, Rodgers-style, it would be a great QB great. As it is, I will not make you laugh in the room if you want to select him first at his post. It is fantastic, a clear first place in the quarter. What he accomplished last season with a depleted receiving corps, the MVP-level stuff.

San Diego also provides fantasy owners with best-in-class tight end Antonio Gates (notes), a man who caught 10 touchdown passes in just 10 games last season. It seems to be done to manage its issues plantar fascia to practice complete. No cause for alarm here.

The receiver Vincent Jackson (notes) is in a very different situation this season, unlike 2010, the year of exclusion. He earned a guaranteed $ 11.4 million in 2011, the preseason has gone well, and is a target for an elite quarterback. Jackson is always choose the top eight in office, a mid-to late second round of standard-sized leagues. Nobody should be surprised if your total exceeds 2009 (68-1167-9). Malcolm Floyd (Notes) stays with the Chargers, signed a two-year contract last month. It was great last season without Jackson at least five weeks, until injuries hit. Rivers and then turned briefly Seyi Ajirotutu (notes) in a tremendous asset, because it is the kind of quarterback who can do that. Patrick Crayton (notes) is still in the city, but was injured (ankle). Rookie third-round pick Vincent Brown (notes) is a receptor of interest to owners of the dynasty, but an injury ruled out during the preseason, too.

Do not be surprised to learn that Anthony Gonzalez (Notes) deal with another injury (hamstring). None of his writing in those days.

At 5 feet 9 inches and 224 pounds, Carter is built for tough yards and had a good pre-season what it's worth (a little).

This is a great passing game, well, so you should jump on any Wideouts that can be launched against targets.
