Manchester City Close To Signing Samir Nasri To Arsenal

Manchester City are close to a deal to sign an agreement with Arsenal Samir Nasri.

The transfer could be completed within 24 hours, with the city to pay Arsenal 25 million pounds reported.

Nasri, who joined the Gunners from Marseille in 2008, before the last 12 months of contract and has rejected a new deal at the Emirates Stadium.

The French midfielder, 24, should be another high-profile departure from Arsenal this week, when Cesc Fabregas moved to Barcelona on Monday.

Nasri has used a social network Twitter to congratulate her move and Fabregas Arsenal fans who criticize the abuse directed towards him singing on Saturday during the 0-0 draw against Newcastle.

"I heard what the fans sang for me on Saturday, and it's really disrespectful because I still have a [sic] Arsenal player," he writes.

There have been suggestions Nasri would undergo a medical examination on Wednesday - and camera crews gathered at the hospital in Bridgewater.

But it was never likely because clubs were - and still is - in the negotiations, and no doctor can not take place until an agreement is accepted.

Arsenal has begun discussions with Nasri in December 2010, but the French understood stalled on a new three-year contract worth £ 90,000 a week - and in June he threw further doubt on its future.

The Gunners have rejected a £ 20m offer from Manchester United in early July, and Arsenal manager Wenger said he was willing to lose Nasri on a free transfer next summer rather than sell it now.

"Imagine the worst case scenario - you lose Fabregas and Nasri," said Wenger. "You can not convince people you are ambitious, then. You can not pretend to be a big club.

"A great club has its great players and gives a message to all the other big clubs simply can not get [the players] you."

From the city, Roberto Mancini, and made clear its intention to Nasri at Eastlands and although Wenger said on Monday that the player can continue, the situation has evolved since then.

If the sale goes through Nasri will make a huge salary increase and become Mancini was the third major signing after the arrival of Gael Clichy, Stefan Savic and Sergio Aguero.

Nasri scored 27 goals in 124 appearances for Arsenal and won 23 caps for France.
